LOOKING for

Elmer James Broussard

I am his firstborn and have never met him

My birth name was Darryl Leigh Broussard

My Sister's birth name was Sybil Denise Broussard

My mother's maiden name was Vivian Lorna Kringle

Vivian Lorna and Elmer James married in Key West FL in 1945

Vivian Lorna and Elmer James divorced in 1949

I think he was born in or about 1920

Information I think is correct.

My father, preferred to be called Jim Broussard although his name was Elmer James Broussard. Sometimes he listed his name as E Jim Broussard.  I know he was on the USS Hinsdale as RM1/C C division USN, in Sasebo Japan on Jan 01 1945. He originally came from Lafayette Louisiana and had family there I have never been able to locate. He divorced my mother in 1949 and remarried a few years later. I have been told that he had at least two sons from the 2nd marriage. Until 1967 he was living in New York City.

He was listed in the New York City Manhattan phone books '62 thru '67 as E Jim Broussard. He was not listed in the 67/68 phone book or thereafter. The listing was: Phone # 212-UN5-2560 at 304 W 107st New York City.

His family was originally from Baton Rouge Louisiana  Elmer James had at least one sister Charlene. Elmer grew up in Catholic orphanage. His fathers name was Raul.

An old letter dated Jan 01,1945, I found after my mother's death showed a return address of; USS Hinsdale RM1/C C Division USN #274 59 49, Sasebo Japan.

A Navy reunion organization has him listed as dying in the 1980's. The following information was given to me by that organization: "If my own memory serves me correctly, then I remember back in the 1980's we had received word that he died. It seems to me that he came from Louisiana. I certainly remember the name Brousard. On commissioning day of the Swanson I was a Signalman 2/c. So I would have had contact with him. He reported on board as an Apprentice Seaman, which indicates to me that he must have just completed Radioman School. Before leaving the Swanson a year later he had been promoted to Radioman 2/c. Thats 4 promotions within a year. He served on the Swanson from 29 May to 4 June 1942 and was on board the Swanson during one of the most difficult periods in the ships history."

I've contacted the Navy on several occasions, each time they can't find a listing for him. I don't have his service number and at the time, he may not have had a Social Security number.

I can be contacted: Dorron Brousard, 201-294-5508, d.dorb@verizon.net, dorronb2@hotmail.com. POSTED July 2005
